Day four of LFW Frankie and I trudged over to Park Lane for a live Q&A with Vogue Editor in Chief Alexandra Shulman at Playboy London - I was most intrigued by choice of venue seeing/hearing Playboy and Vogue in the same sentence is rather strange. Once inside Playboy bunnies proffered a cocktail, we found a spot and got comfortable for the Q&A, Shulman took her seat wearing a beautiful Simone Rocha dress and Nicolas Kirkwood points.
You envision an Editor in Chief to be aloof and cold on the contrary during the talk Shulman was very open, honest and down to earth, she comes across to me as a worldly friend who has encyclopaedic knowledge knowing of everything.
Fashion is? ''A movement- it's trends, it's looking at the way people dress, it has to move constantly yes! It's chaotic and schizophrenic, but I'm all for the chaos''
Her views on the British High Street were most interesting, she spoke of how middle market brands such as Rag & Bone, Carven are opening a store in London - such brands expanding show consumers are beginning to gradually shift away from throwaway fashion to buying good quality sensible pieces which last.
Another nugget shared was how the High Street benefits from paying attention to designers/trends - which I agree with to an extent we get to have runway copies literally 4-6 weeks after a show, amazing right? Getting a Celine or Wanglenciaga-esque copy without having to rob a bank.
To sum up thoroughly enjoyed listening to Alexandra Shulman share her wisdom - thank you M&C Saatchi PR for the opportunity.
